Every day, the Fortune staff spends hours poring over tech stories, posts, and reviews from all over the Web to keep tabs on the companies that matter. We've assembled the day's most newsworthy bits below.

  • HP beat analyst expectations for its fourth quarter earnings, but only just slightly, with sales of $33.3 billion, up $2.5 billion compared to the same time last year. (Analysts had predicted revenue of $32.75 billion.) (internetnews)
  • Enterprise network and app provider Novell will be acquired by Attachmate Corp. for $2.2 billion. The company also agreed to sell some of its intellectual property assets to CPTN Holdings, a group of companies organized by Microsoft, for $450 million. (eWeek)
  • The News Corp/Apple-developed digital newspaper for tablets, the Daily, could be announced as soon as December 9. While News Corp is reportedly doing all the heavy-lifting in terms of developing editorial content, Apple could be tweaking iTunes billing to allow for proper newsstand subscriptions.
