The Android phenomenon isn't a US-only affair.
Digital banking provider Intelligent Environments published the results of a study yesterday profiling the buying habits of smartphone buyers in the UK.
Some 28% of smartphone users own an Android, with 26% using an iPhone and 14% a BlackBerry, the study for digital banking provider Intelligent Environments found. More than four million British people over 18 years old own an Android - and it is popular with both MORE

With a new CEO and a departing Products VP, there is some room for interest.
Google (GOOG) announced today that their First Quater 2011 Financial Results conference call will take place on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. Pacific Time (4:30 p.m. Eastern Time).
This will be the first earnings call under Larry Page who has a reputation for the unorthodox. Also, Google earnings calls are usually hosted by Product VP Jonathan MORE

One day into Page-run Google, there is already a high-profile departure.
The San Jose Mercury News today reports that Senior VP of Product Management Jonathan Rosenberg just resigned from Google(GOOG). Earlier today, SAI ranked him the 4th most powerful exec under the new regime of Larry Page though he ranks about ninth on the current official list.
The soft angle is that, "Rosenberg wanted to work at Google until his high school-aged daughter left MORE

$900 Million for Nortel's patents could put some of its patent questions to an end.
Google (GOOG) and its Android partners are, like the rest of the industry, engulfed in patent disputes from Oracle (ORCL), Nokia (NOK) Apple (AAPL), Microsoft (MSFT) and others over Android, and to lesser degree, Chrome.
As a younger company with only a relatively recent focus on mobile communications, Google has a shallow patent pool from which to MORE

Today's the day that co-founder and inventor of the PageRank algorithm takes back the reigns of Google, replacing Eric Schmidt who reigned over a successful decade of expansion.
In a surprise announcement at January's earnings call, Google (GOOG) announced that CEO Eric Schmidt would be stepping down and Larry Page would be replacing him.
Today's the day.
Although, Eric Schmidt's role as "Adult Supervisor" has been joked about, the stability he brought to the MORE

The outgoing Google CEO came up on top of other CEOs including Apple 'CEO of the Decade' Steve Jobs in Glassdoor's CEO approval ratings.
I'm not sure if the date has anything to do with the latest findings from Glassdoor.com, but now former Google (GOOG) CEO Eric Schmidt left his position on top of other tech CEOs.
Glassdoor's results are anything but scientific. The survey results come from anonymous current and former employees, MORE

It might be just me, but this gag from Google reminds me of the Kinect demonstration that Microsoft gave at CES.
One of Google's (GOOG) gags today is a new way to operate Gmail - with your body movements. (be sure to check out the motion for sending an email)
That's amusing, but it reminds me of Microsoft's (MSFT) Kinect demonstration, below:

Google tries to clean up Android, telling carriers and manufacturers that they can't get too crazy with their modifications. So it gets whacked by pundits. Damned if you do...?
It's hard for Andy Rubin and his Android creation to catch a fair break. Partnering with just about every carrier and smartphone manufacturer, Android has come from nowhere to be the dominant OS in the smartphone industry in under three years. MORE

The newly released HTC Thunderbolt is keeping pace with the Verizon iPhone, at least according to Verizon store reps.
4Gs.
Some people have just got to have them. Most people agree that the ThunderBolt isn't the best Android device on the market today, but its ability to get speeds of over 20Mb/second, faster than many wired ISPs, have people snapping them up.
Barron's quotes BTIG Research analyst Walter Piecyk who ran checks on 150 different MORE

The shoe, as the say, is now officially on the other foot.
In a move which has shown how much the competitive landscape has moved in the past decade, Microsoft (MSFT) filed a formal complaint with the E.U. Commission over what it sees as anti-competitive tactics used by Google (GOOG).
Microsoft is still reeling from its own anti-trust settlement in the E.U. just two years ago. The decade long fight ended with Microsoft MORE
