Ten minutes before they let the first customers in we counted more than 800 in the queue

FORTUNE -- Apple (AAPL), by our count, drew twice as many customers for the iPhone 5 as they did last year for the iPhone 4S. This despite all those pre-orders they took in the first 24 hours (2 million vs. 1 million for the iPhone 4S).
