Facebook's new "Timelines"-focused profile rolls out September 29.

* Facebook unveiled a flurry of new features at yesterday's f8 conference in San Francisco, including "Timelines," a radical re-imagining of the user profile that organizes your activity into a timeline-like format. The new profile (see above) starts rolling out September 29, but if you just can't wait, here's a slightly complicated way to enable it now. Also: colleague Jessi Hempel sums up yesterday's proceedings quite nicely. (Facebook and TechCrunch)

* HP (HPQ) put this week's rampant speculation to rest by officially ousting Leo Apotheker and naming board member Meg Whitman CEO. (All Things D)

* Spotify's Daniel Ek says the popular music streaming service will no longer be invite-only in the U.S. and be free to use for the first six months. (After that, users must pony up.) (TechCrunch)

* Blockbuster, acquired by DISH (DISH) Network last April, is expected to unveil a streaming service this Friday. (CNNMoney)

* Much-hyped photo-sharing startup Color introduced a revamped version of the mobile app during f8. (The New York Times)

* Why super angel investor Ron Conway believes New York has a tech ecosystem just as good as Silicon Valley's. (Business Insider)
