Today in Tech: AT&T kills cheaper texting plan

* HP (HPQ) dropped a double-whammy yesterday when it announced that it's ceasing production of hardware based on the webOS operating system, including the recently-launched TouchPad tablet, and thinking about spinning off its PC business. (CNNMoney)

* At its first annual developers conference, cloud-based note-taking startup Evernote announced it had acquired Skitch, a Mac app that lets users capture, annotate and share images. Besides dropping the price from $20 to free, the company also released an Android edition with other versions on the way. (Evernote)

* AT&T (T) is eliminating its lower-tier texting plan of $10 a month for 1,000 texts leaving only one plan left for new subscribers to choose from: $20 for unlimited texts. (The New York Times)

* Foursquare now lets users check into specific events like movies, concerts, and sports games in addition to locations. (Foursquare Blog)

* Research in Motion (RIMM) wants to get into the music business with a service that would theoretically run on top of its BlackBerry Messenger service. The company is currently in talks with the four largest U.S. record companies. (CNET)

* Salesforce (CRM) reported record sales for its latest quarter: $546 million, up 38% year-over-year. (TechCrunch)
