ChangeWave: Business [hearts] iPad

Among enterprises planning to purchase tablets next quarter, 78% intend to buy iPads

There's not much good news for Apple's (AAPL) competitors in the results of a ChangeWave survey released Wednesday.

In November, ChangeWave researchers asked 1,641 corporate IT buyers about their current and future tablet purchase policies. Although only 7% of the respondents currently provide employees with tablets -- up from 1% in an August survey -- 14% plan to do so in the first quarter of 2011.

Apple is likely to get most of that business.

Among the companies that supply tablets today, 82% are using iPads, 11% are using Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) Slates and 7% Dell (DELL) Streaks. Moreover, the respondents are considerably more satisfied with their iPads than they are with their Slates and Streaks. (See chart above.)

Little wonder, then, what device the IT managers are planning to purchase next quarter. See chart below.

For those who can't see the chart, it shows 78% Apple, 9% Dell, 9% Research in Motion (RIMM), 8% HP and 4% Samsung.

"The biggest percentage jump of all since August," writes research director Paul Carton, "lies in the number of businesses who report they are using the iPad for Laptop Replacement (38%: up 13-pts) – a trend that has huge implications and which we'll be tracking closely in future ChangeWave surveys."
