Android growth continues in June

July 14, 2010: 2:07 PM ET

The iPhone 4 launch doesn't seem to have slowed the growth of the AndroidOS.

Quantcast released its June numbers yesterday, indicating that the Android platform continued to outgrow the other smartphone vendors in web traffic.  That's in line with last week's report from comScore.

The growth was largely at the expense of Apple's iOS, which still has a sizeable lead on the rest of the mobile operating systems. Apple is at 58% of the web hits on Quantcast sites.  Android is now up to 21%.

While Apple is said to have sold millions of iPhone 4s during the last weeks of June, Quantcast says the net-effect is minimal because most new iPhone 4 buyers are upgrading from a previous model.

...early numbers are in and while it appears that iPhone share (based on web consumption) got a slight boost, most new iPhones sold were simply replacing earlier iPhone models.

Meanwhile, Android devices seem to be replacing feature phones, Blackberries, Nokias, Windows Mobile and even significant numbers of iPhone's if this NYTimes piece (and the comments!) are to be believed.

Android is up 14.1% this year while Apple's iOS is down 7% overall.
