The update adds a laundry list of improvements, but will it improve battery life?
Sprint just announced that you can do a manual update to Android 2.2 Froyo on the HTC EVO. The commercial is right, EVO is first at everything. "What will you do with first?" I installed Froyo 2.2 and it works beautifully. On two different EVOs.
Before I show you how to do it, have a look at the MORE

The company's motion-based controller has the goods to revolutionize traditional console gaming. But will Kinect take off or collect dust?
When Microsoft announced plans for a motion-based controller 13 months ago, many gamers -- myself, included -- rolled their collective eyes. Sure, it could change the way more than 40 million Xbox 360 owners around the world interact with their consoles, but it seemed much more likely that Kinect, then dubbed MORE

Hong Kong gets the iPhone 4: NOWTV via YouTube
One of best things about the movie Babies -- a documentary look at the first year of life in four very different countries -- is that you know what the parents are saying to their children even if you don't understand a word.

A new layer allows users to see realistic weather patterns in real time.
I've used a few different desktop weather applications (and recently some mobile ones) to get the lowdown on what's really coming my way during inclement weather. What I usually look at is the Doppler radar which paints a pretty good picture of what precipitation one can expect. As per usual, Google (GOOG) is now one-upping the ante on those MORE

But like the rest of Time Inc.'s publications, it's stuck in subscription limbo
Image: Time Inc.
As someone who labored for nearly 30 years in the Time/Life Building -- at Time mostly, followed by a shorter stint at Fortune -- I have a vested interest in seeing the magazines that come out it survive and, if possible, prosper in the digital age.
So it's with mixed feelings that I opened the inaugural MORE

"We'll talk about about slates and tablets and blah, blah, blah, blah."
Ballmer at the financial analysts meeting. Image: Microsoft
No, those aren't the notes of a reporter who couldn't keep up. That "blah, blah, blah, blah" -- taken from the official transcript of Microsoft's (MSFT) annual financial analysts meeting Thursday -- is how Microsoft CEO Steve Balmer introduced what he said was one of the top issues on his mind: MORE

Google finally makes a push into geo-targeted advertising with new location-aware maps.
Google goes local
Announced on their Google Mobile Ads blog this morning, Google (GOOG) now lets advertisers geo-target their advertising and link to maps. On top of all of this, Google's one-click calling features have been integrated.
Here's how it works. You are a company that wants to target mobile users. Someone sees your paid ad link in an app MORE

Google's China site is reporting that the only major service running in China is Gmail.
Update: Google confirms that the Chinese government hasn't blocked Google, it is just an error in its reporting mechanism.
Because of the way we measure accessibility in China, it's possible that our machines could overestimate the level of blockage. That seems to be what happened last night when there was a relatively small blockage. It appears MORE

You'd think YouTube servers would be running out of space by now?!

Analysts often put Google's domestic share of the search market at around 70%. Some studies indicate that it is much much higher globally, especially in mobile.
Pindom published a chart today of Statcounter numbers that might well take the wind out of any sails at Yahoo or Microsoft in the mobile space. While Google owns 90% of the global market in non-mobile search (which is a lot higher than MORE
