When Bill Gates formally stepped away from an active role at Microsoft (MSFT) in July of 2008, he also hung up his golf clubs. His explanation was as simple as it was revealing: "It takes up too much time to get any good at MORE

J. G. Savoldi
I don't like giving free publicity to someone who's probably got more than he deserves, but in this case I'll make an exception.
I got an e-mail Saturday night from BAM Investor's J.G. Savoldi. He's the guy who got some attention last week announcing on Twitter that Apple (AAPL), which was trading above $270 a share at MORE

According to a report from Italy, Google plans to release a micro-payment system that will link to paid newspaper content directly from search results.
Italian newspaper La Repubblica is reporting that Google has been contacting Italian newspapers (wonder how they found out?!) about a new service called 'Newspass' which will be released later this year. Newspass will provide news organizations with micro-payments for direct links to their properties from Google News. The move MORE

It makes a lot of sense really: Apple and Google are slugging it out over candy bar-shaped phone designs while RIM is the biggest smartphone maker in the US and bigger than both Android and Apple internationally. Their traditional 'Blackberry design' is by far their most MORE

When the stock sets new record highs, the naysayers come out of the woodwork

As a rule of thumb, never take investment advice from a hedge fund manager who posts his predictions on Twitter.
On Thursday morning, BAM Investor's J.G. Savoldi used the microblogging service (and a follow-up press release) to warn investors that Apple (AAPL) was about to crash and could hit $45 a share -- perhaps as MORE

UPDATE: Mint CEO Patzer responds.
Social media can be a glorious way to reach customers -- and to let them return the love in a very public way. But, as Mint -- a division of Intuit (INTU) -- is learning, sometimes showing off how much people are talking about you can quickly turn into a business nightmare.
The story starts with a recent MORE

AT&T stores start to get stock of the HTC Aria, the company's first real Android phone.
The HTC Aria, which I reviewed here and continue to use and enjoy, is now available at some AT&T stores, according to some reports. I made a call to my local AT&T (T) store here in New York and they are expecting shipments "any minute now."
The speedy little device runs Android 2.1, which is fantastic MORE

Requests "confidentiality treatment" for iPhone 4 specs even as it spills the beans on iTunes
Patently Apple has turned up a curious letter. It was sent on June 4, three days before Steve Jobs unveiled the iPhone 4, to the Federal Communications Commission -- the government agency that must certify any wireless device before it can be marketed in the U.S.
Signed by Apple's (AAPL) wireless compliance manager, it requests confidentiality for MORE

PhoneArena.com took a picture of a purported Best Buy circular (right, full sized, below) which seems to indicate that Sprint's EVO 4G will be coming in White. The white EVO is expected to be a Best Buy Mobile exclusive until August, and orders are supposed to MORE
