Dell's Android Streak: Available in July for $499 (on AT&T iPad data plans?)

June 2, 2010: 11:22 PM ET

Dell has released some pricing and shipping details for its Streak mini tablet (aka Mini 5) today at AllThingsD.

According to Engadget, the Dell Android device will be available for $500 unlocked and open for use on other people's networks.  The five-inch mini tablet is only an inch bigger than the HTC Evo, which is due to be released later this week and has many of the same specs: same Snapdragon processor, same 800x480 display, same ability to make calls, should you desire.

The Dell Streak is already confirmed for O2 in the UK, which will completely subsidize the phone with a two-year contract. The only carrier in the U.S. that uses the same frequency as O2's radios is AT&T (T-Mobile uses different frequencies for 3G but would likely be able to connect to its EDGE network) so they would be a likely carrier partner.

It will be interesting to see if AT&T will offer the same data plans that they offer on Apple's iPad, which is sold at the same price point, without subsidy.

I've reached out to AT&T for comment and have yet to hear back one way or the other.

CNET's Ina Fried got a few minutes with the device today as you can see in the video below.
