  • Beaming tunes to Apple's secret cloud

It took Lala's Music Mover more than a week to upload my modest iTunes library

If Michael Robertson is right -- and I believe he is -- Apple (AAPL) is about to use its $85 million purchase of Lala to create a browser-based music service that will let users access their iTunes music collections from the Web.

The service could become available as early as next Wednesday, says Robertson, a 12-year MORE

In an otherwise positive report Tuesday anticipating the introduction of Apple's (AAPL) tablet computer at next Wednesday's "latest creation" event, Kaufman Brothers' Shaw Wu introduces a note of uncertainty.

"We are also picking up," he writes, "that the product would most likely not ship in volume until the June timeframe, as there may [be] minor issues that need more work MORE

  • AAPL pops ahead of one-two punch

Shares rise sharply in advance of next week's earnings report and special event

With strong earnings expected to be announced Monday Jan. 25 and a new product scheduled to be unveiled two days later, Apple (AAPL) shares climbed steeply Tuesday morning.

The release of several positive reports on Mac sales for the quarter than ended Dec. 26 probably didn't hurt, either.

The stock closed at $215.04, up 9.11 points (4.42%) for the day, MORE

  • Munster: 2010 The Year of the Mac

Mac sales, not iPhones or the new tablet, will drive near-term gains says a key Apple analyst

Throw another 200,000 Macs on the barbie.

Less than a week before Apple's (AAPL) Q1 2010 earnings report, Piper Jaffray's Gene Munster raised his Mac sales estimate Tuesday to 3.1 million from 2.9 million and his price target to $279 from $277.

  • Apple tablet: The video previews

When the real thing arrives, will it be as good as the YouTube versions?

    Image: CourseSmart

If reality catches up with rumor, Steve Jobs will give one of the great demos of his life next Wednesday at Apple's (AAPL) invitation-only "latest creation" event in San Francisco.

But you don't have to wait until Jan. 27 to get a taste of what he might be showing.

For months, Apple has been secretly meeting with MORE

  • Cisco's goal: a real-time YouTube for business

Tony Bates isn't just an online video fanatic when he's on the clock. The Cisco (CSCO) executive also served on the board of YouTube in his spare time, before Google (GOOG) bought it in 2006. When I sat down with Bates in his office recently, the veteran of Cisco's service provider and enterprise units talked about how he ended up advising YouTube and why he believes video is the next MORE
